The founding company, Advanced Materials, was started in 1989 by Dr. John Wasson in New Hill, NC. Dr. Wasson has retired, and the company was sold in 2016 to Dr. James Hall and relocated to Monroe in Union County NC. The company has traditionally been small with only one or two employees, and there are no plans to expand beyond that at this time.

The primary markets for these compounds are health science, industry, research, education, and the chemical supply companies. The chemical supply companies will have catalogs that list 20,000 to 40,000 chemicals. While they all offer bulk chemicals, most of the chemicals are only available in small quantities of 1 kg (2.2 lb) or less. These specialty chemicals are generally produced by small companies such as Wingate Advanced Materials. Unfortunately, over the past decade, the owners of these small companies are either retiring or dying, and the number of companies is dwindling. Therefore, Wingate Advanced Materials will to able to supply chemicals for this market.

Wingate Advanced Materials operates its production, analysis, and warehouse in a 10,000 sq. ft. facility in Monroe, NC, on the east side one block off Highway 74. The facility includes a specially constructed drying room to combat North Carolina’s humidity. The lab facilities allow us to analyzed most of our compounds on-site. Located only five miles from Wingate University (in Wingate, NC), WAM has a close working relationship of the University’s Department of Chemistry and Physics. WAM has access to their advanced analytical instrumentation and professional expertise, and we routinely engage in joint projects. The University has provided us with students for internships and special research projects.
